Ode to Knives

Look at this face. Isn't this a cute face? Does this look like a face of a mass murderer bent on the complete genocide of all of man kind? Well of course not. This is the face of a mass murderer bent on the mass destruction of mankind and the cruel intentions of doing everything in his power to ruin his brother Vash's life. Well don't we all wish we had siblings like that (Life would be so much better if Vash was an only child eh?). Well the few of you who don't know who Knives is here goes. Knives is Vash's I believe twin brother (not identical, fraternal). They do look a lot alike though. The only few differences is that Knive's skin complection is darker, his hair is lighter, and his eyes are blue (He's so cute in the sweet sadistic hey I'm gonna kill you all kind of way, I know I'm a little twisted). Despite his innocent appearance though Knives is a pretty evil guy. I suppose he's been like this for quite some time. When Knives and Vash were just kids, Knives seemed pretty sweet. It was obvious that he was tougher than Vash, but he didn't seem evil. At least not until the dreaded Butterfly incident (another story I'll elaborate on in a minute). At that point it's pretty clear Knives is a little more than Super Phsycho. Knives then goes on a killing spree and is even responsible for killing Rem. When Vash finds this out the lovely brother bond between them, which is already a little broken, is completely shattered. Vash is devestated by Rem's death and suprisingly (note sarcasm) Knives is unaffected by this. Knives simply goes on with his life as if it were nothing, with only one purpose in life, to destroy all of the "imperfect" organisms known as mankind and create a new world for him and his people. When Vash doesn't want to help Knives with his mission, Knives is a little disappointed, but not so discouraged that he doesn't decide to complete his mission by himself. After a few arguments and a little gun fire and leg shooting Vash and Knives finally decide it's time that they part ways (another long story). After this I belive Vash and Knives don't meet again for another 85 years or so, and after they meet again, what do you know like the loving brothers they are they end up arguing shooting at eachother and a few arms are lost and bodies are incarcirated (you know the usual). Awwwwww, such good loving brothers they are. After this conflict, since Knives is a little tied up, Knives decides to pay Vash back by sending Legato and company after Vash and tells them to make Vash's life a basic living hell ("Make Vash suffer for all eternity!" says Knives). So how does this battle of siblings, war of good and evil, end? Well I guess you'll have to watch the show to find out ^_- !
Butterfly Incident
Musings on Knives

So what turns seemingly nice brothers and decent little boys into genocidal maniacs? Some might say it's a superiorty complex, others say child abuse. I say all of the above. I don't know when exactly Knives found out he was a plant, I'm guessin he and Vash always knew it, but once he realized that he was a "superior being" a seed inside Knives was planted. The idea that hey I'm better than these ridiculous a little less than perfect (ok a lot) humans, seed was planted. However, I don't think it was until Knives was physically abused by the prejudice Steve that Knives really got pissed. Maybe I should explain the situation a little better. During this time Knives and Vash were taken in by a group of space travlers from earth who were on a mission to find a new planet. I really can't remember all of their names so let's just call them what Vash called them "Rem and the crew (including Rem there was 5 of them). Thanks to Rem, Vash and Knives were takin in by this crew who raised them ever since they were babies. Everyone loved Knives and Vash except one man, Steve. Steve was scared of Knives and Vash becuase he didn't understand what they were and like any stupid human Steve hated what he couldn't understand. He hated them so much he went as far as beating on poor little Knives and Vash. Well never being a push over Knives decided to get payback. So how are butterflies important to this you ask? Well I feel that Knives didn't really plan on killin everyone until he was a little hurt by his brother. One day while Vash, Knives, and Rem were taking a nice stroll in the park (lalalala!) Vash notices a cute whittle butterfly caught in a spider's web. Well being the good little hero Vash tries his hardest to free the butterfly before big bad spider eats him. Vash is just about to save the butterfly when WHAM-KERSPLAT Knives decides to help Vash by crushing the spider in his hands. Well Vash being the thankful lil bro he is decides to lunge at Knives sending him hurling to the ground. Too shocked to do anything and not quite understanding what he did wrong Knives stares sadly at his angry brother. Did Knives not do the right thing? Did he not save the butterfly? It's pretty clear at this point that Knives and Vash will have conflicting opinions for the rest of their lives. You see Knives feels that in order save the butterfly you have to kill the spider since the spider will die of starvation without eating the butterfly anyways. Now I guess this is true, and to a point I agree with Knives. However Rem retaliates by saying "No one has the right to take the life of another person." This is true also. Perhaps more true that Knives' theory. What right does Knives have to kill another life? Anyho I can lecture on this for a long time so I'll just save it. Anyways my point is that after his argument with Rem, Knives loses a little more faith in his human companions and in his brother. Knives is reallys sent off the deep end after he loses faith in the captain Joey (another long story) and has at this point lost all faith in mankind and is certain that he is the most logical thinker and is thus forth "superior," and so the once sweet little boy goes on his rampage and everyone except Vash is killed. So why did Knives spare Vash? Well as contadictory as this might sound It's because Knives loves Vash. Well despite contrasting opinions they are brothers. Before Knives goes Mass Murderer, Knives and Vash were pretty close. They were always there to cry on eachothers shoulders. It was really kind of sweet, that is until the butterfly incident. I suppose that despite Vash's brain washing (as Knives would probably put it) Knives still believed that Vash was a superior being a long with him. He wanted to share his new world with the only person he cared about, his brother Vash. Even after Vash shoots him in the leg, Knives is still willing to forgive Vash and still insist on Vash joining him in his killing spree. Now I don't know about you, but you got to really love a person to forgive them after they shoot you in the leg and leave you stranded in a desert. Still not agreeing on things Knives gets a littel angry (being the sadistic killer he is) and decides to shoot Vash's arm off. Well then he does a really stupid thing. Knives then unleashes Vash's secret power the "angle arms." Hey stupid you don't shoot people's arms off and then give them the most powerful weapon in the world! I think Knives deserved to be blown to crisp for doing something that stupid! Well Anyways after Vash nearly kills Knives (which I find it pretty interesting that Vash isn't willing to kill anyone but his own flesh and blood?????)Knives decides that's the last straw and decides to repay Vash by sending Legato and the Gun ho Guns after Vash (there's another longer story). So does Knives hate Vash? I don't think so. Even after all is said and done and Vash and Knives decide to end it in one final battle Knives still gives Vash one last chance to join him. Finally realizing it's hopless Knives finally decides to kill Vash. So in short that's why I think Knives spared Vash all this time. Because he really loved him. Disagree? Well I really don't care. I'm not saying I like Knives (and I'm not saying I don't),but with all the facts and proof here in front of me, this is the best conclusion I can come to. So is Knives evil? Well of course he is. He's as looney as they get. I'm just saying that Knives is a little misunderstood, as all raving lunatics are.
